Pawnee City Council Approves Budget
09/10/2014

City Hall - Pawnee City

(KTNC)--The Pawnee City Council unanimously approved the fiscal year 2014-15 budget Monday night.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the total budget of $4.7 million might appear a bit high, but that includes $2.6 million budgeted for the assisted living facility.
Pawnee City has completed several needed projects recently, including a new sewer plant and improvements to the water system that have inflated the budget in recent years. Stephens says the city has no major projects scheduled in the next year.
The City Council approved the property tax request of $102,300 and a proposed tax rate of 47.49 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
The proposed tax rate is slightly lower than last year. Stephens says the lower levy is mainly because the airport is no longer part of the city’s levy. The Pawnee City Airport will collect its own levy of 2.1 cents.
Previously, Pawnee City had collected the airport levy and paid the airport $4,300 annually.
Stephens says several people attended Monday’s meeting, but no one commented on the budget or tax request during public hearings.
The Pawnee City Council also approved a Planning Commission recommendation to rezone a parcel of land from R2 to General Commercial. The property is located a block from downtown on 6th Street.
And the council approved a bid from McNealy Construction for a Housing Rehab Project. That’s the 7th housing rehab project approved in the city under the current grant.
Stephens says three other applications are being reviewed. Pawnee City had expected to do 10 rehab projects this year.
