Hoyt Machine Shop Destroyed by Fire
09/08/2014

(KNZA)--An early Monday evening fire at a Hoyt machine shop was so intense, it melted siding on the Hoyt City Hall, standing 100 feet away.

That word from Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse who says the Tool Works Machine Shop, located at 200 East 4th Street, and owned by Rick Anno, is a total loss.

The fire broke out shortly before 5:15, sending the Hoyt, Mayetta and Potawatomi Tribal Fire Departments to the scene, where they were joined by Jackson County EMS, the Hoyt Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The fire, which caused explosions due to chemicals inside the structure, was brought under control in about an hour.

Investigators believe it was caused by a gasoline powered golf cart inside the building. Morse says the cart, which had been in operation elsewhere prior to the fire, had been placed inside by the building's owner a short time before the blaze began.

The cost of the damage is not immediately known.

No injuries are reported.
