09/05/2014

(KAIR)--As KAIR radio celebrates seventy five years on air, we pause to take a look back on some of the people and events that have helped make us a part of the Atchison community for over seven decades. Each week, we will focus on a story that helps us remember a bit of our history.

Anyone who has lived in the Atchison area for any amount of time knows that trains are a vital part of the community. However, most are used to those trains carrying cargo. It was not too long ago that the biggest cargo on those trains were passengers. Executive Director for the Atchison County Historical Society, Chris Taylor, speaks about how passenger rail service shaped the Atchison community and what lead to it's eventual decline in the earlly 1960s.
