Brown Co. Hires Public Resource Safety Officer
09/05/2014

(KNZA)--The Brown County Sheriff’s office has announced the hiring of
Jerry Clary as the department’s new Public Resource Safety officer.

Sheriff John Merchant says the part-time position will focus on providing the county with much needed programs geared towards public safety.

Merchant says some of the courses they are planning to offer will include the AAA’s Driver Improvement Program.  The program will focus on safe driving tactics and techniques designed to improve driving behaviors and reduce traffic accidents. Many insurance companies offer discounts to those who successfully complete the course.  Merchant says they hope to offer the course to the public at a very minimal or no cost.

In addition, he says they are collaborating with the 2 local school districts and Highland Community College to offer First Aid/CPR/AED certification to all Brown County high school students.

Clary retired from the Kansas Highway Patrol earlier this year as a Master Trooper after more than 27 years of service.   In addition, he recently retired from the military as well with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 35 years of service.

Clary attended Troy schools and moved to Hiawatha in 1999.  He resides
in Hiawatha  with his wife Mary and children Andrew and Jamie.
