(KAIR)--The Atchison County Historical Society is looking for a good home for the old Treasurer's Office counter from the County Courthouse that was replaced by modern desks in 2005.
The original counter, which dates back to the building of the courthouse, has been through a fair bit of Atchison County history, and the Historical Society wants to give it a new use, so it can continue to serve county residents. All parts are available, including the 1970s or '80s replacement butcher block laminate counter top. The original marble inlay will remain as part of the Historical Society collection.
Chris Taylor, Executive Director for the Historical Society says that they are looking for the right project and location in the county for the counter. Right now, the counter is in storage, and Taylor says they do not just want to transfer where it is stored. They want to find a home where it can be seen and used into the near future.
This Historical Society will consider proposals received with preference given to Atchison County non profit organizations.
If you are interested in submitting a proposal for the historical piece, you can contact Taylor by September 15th by calling 913-367-6238, or by e mailing gowest@atchisonhistory.org.
