Memorial Service Planned for Longtime Peru State Professor
08/31/2014

(KTNC)--Peru State College will honor a longtime professor who passed away recently.

A public memorial service will be held Tuesday for Dr. Thomas Ediger, who died August 20 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Dr. Ediger was a music professor and Director of Choral Activities at Peru State College. He joined the Peru State faculty in 1979, teaching a variety of music courses and directing the school’s Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers.

Notably, Dr. Ediger started Peru State’s Piano Extravaganza in 1990. The event brought more than 200 pianists to campus. He also coordinated the college’s annual High School Show Choir Festival and Choral Festival Honor Choir, and directed the Holiday Madrigal Dinner.

Dr. Ediger was also an active performer, composer and piano and vocal clinician in the region, and was a three-time winner of Peru State’s Teacher Excellence Award.

Peru State President Dan Hanson says Ediger will be greatly missed.
"His tireless efforts have been widely recognized throughout southeast Nebraska and the region," said Hanson. "Dr. Ediger, his students and their performances have given the campus a treasured sense of heart and soul. He positively influenced the lives of thousands of students throughout his tenure at the college. He was an accomplished musician whose talent, kindness, and commitment to the institution and students was an inspiration.”

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the College Theatre. A reception will follow the service in the Jindra Fine Arts Choir Room. The public is invited to attend.
