Seneca City Council Adopts 2015 Budget
08/22/2014

(KNZA)-- The Seneca City Council has adopted a 2015 city budget of nearly $9.3 million.

The action came during their meeting Wednesday evening after making a minor adjustment in the levy for the library.

City Administrator Matt Rehder says three years ago the library was given a one-mill increase to pay for some capital improvements.  Rehder said the intent was it would be for only one year, but hasn’t been eliminated since.

The council agreed Wednesday to reduce the library levy slightly from six mills to 5.833 mills after they were told a full one-mill reduction would result in a loss of funding through the Northeast Kansas Library System.

With the change, the overall estimated tax rate will be 32.338 mills.  That’s the same has the past several years, but a slight decrease from what had been published.  The levy is to raise nearly $638,000.
