Atchison County Road Receives Speed Limit Adjustment
08/20/2014

(KAIR)--A change in speed limit is planned for a half mile stretch of 234th Road in Atchison County.

That comes after County Commissioners discussed the change at a recent meeting, after hearing concerns from residents who lived in the vicinity. According to Commission Chair Jeff Schuele, the main concern was that the thirty mile per hour limit designated for the portion of 234th running from Rook Road to Sheridan Road was just too long.

Commissioners passed a resolution late last year setting the speed.

Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie also attended the meeting to offer his input, and he says his deputies have been working for the past few months gathering important information regarding the road and speed limit sign placement on it.  While on patrol, they would make down areas of where a possible change in speed limit would be beneficial.

The Commission agreed to shorten the thirty mile per hour zone to an eighth of a mile section in front of St. Pat's Church.
