KAIR Anniversary Special Part Two: Intergration In Atchison

(KAIR)--As KAIR Radio celebrates seventy-five years on air, we pause to take a look back on some of the people and events that have helped make us a part of the Atchison community for nearly seen decades. Each week, we will focus on a story that helps us remember a bit of our history.


In the second part of this special segment,  we foucs on the events that lead up to racial segregation taking place in the Atchison public school system. Chris Taylor, Executive Director for the Atchison County Historical Society provides a summary of the events that lead up to segregation. Van Hurst, Principal of Atchison High School in the late 1960s and early 1970s provides additional insight on what it was like to be a school administrator during this time.
