(KAIR)--An Atchison man was taken into custody after leading law enforcement officials on a short vehicle chase earlier this month.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says the chase started around 10:30PM on August 2nd, when an Atchison County Sheriff's Deputy, responding to a welfare call in the southwest portion of the city, investigated a vehicle leaving the scene.
The deputy, assisted by officers from the Atchison Police Department, attempted to stop the vehicle. A short chase ensued, and ended soon after the vehicle crossed the Amelia Earhart Bridge into Buchanan County.
The driver, 33-year-old Gale Hewitt, was taken into custody by Buchanan County authorities on an Atchison County District Court warrant stemming from aggravated burglary case that allegedly took place on July 28th. Hewitt was also wanted in connection with an alleged residential burglary that took place on July 30th.
Hewitt was transported to the Atchison County Jail Friday, where he faces multiple charges including burglary, aggravated burglary, and theft.
Bond has been set at $15,000.
