(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council is considering an adjustment to the property tax levy for the Seneca Library before adopting the 2015 city budget.
The Council held a hearing on the proposed budget Wednesday evening, which drew no public comment.
As published, the proposed budget contains a slight property tax levy increase. However, City Administrator Matt Rehder says that could change as the Council is considering reducing the mill levy designated for the library.
Rehder says the levy for the library was increased one mill several years ago to fund capital improvements at the facility. With those improvements completed, he says the council is now looking at reducing the levy from six to five mills. The Council is to make a decision at their August 20th meeting whether they want to do it all at one time or in stages.
In other business, the council accepted the low bid from J & B Contractors, of Hiawatha, for curb and gutter work in the amount of $54,815. It was among three received. City Superintendent Brian Ruske said the street department has designated 18-hundred feet of curb and gutter that needs to replaced in the city.
