Atchison Man Sentenced For Credit Card Theft
07/29/2014

(KAIR)--An Atchison man has been sentenced to probation for charges stemming from the theft of a financial card.

43-year-old Wesley Mercer appeared in Atchison County District Court Monday afternoon to hear his fate.

Mercer had earlier plead guilty to two counts of misdemeanor criminal use of a financial card and one misdemeanor count of theft. In exchange for the plea, a computer crime charge was dropped.

Judge Martin Asher gave Mercer a one year suspended jail sentence for each of the three charges, and sentenced him to one year of probation. He was also ordered to pay restitution and write a letter of apology to the victim in the case.

Mercer was arrested last month after a Kansas City woman reported that her debit card had been removed from her purse while she was attending a gathering at Mercer's home.  Mercer then used the card at two local businesses, charging a total of approximately $85.
