(KAIR)--An Atchison woman was issued a notice to appear in Atchison County District Court after two dogs were found in less than ideal conditions on her property.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson reports that an officer with the Atchison Animal Control Department was on patrol July 7th, when she noticed the animals in a yard located in the 1100 block of Kearney. The officer reported that the 3-year-old poodle and the 2-year-old dachshund were laying in the sun with no shade, water, or food present. In addition, the chains used to secure the animals were tangled together.
Both animals were immediately transported to a local vet for treatment, as the dachshund appeared to be near death.
The dog's owner, 29-year-old Peggy Humphrey was not home at the time, but officials made contact with her two days later. She was issued the summons soon after. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 30th.
Both animals have received care, and are doing well at this time.
