(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council has approved for publication a proposed 2015 budget of nearly $9.3 million that contains more than half-mill property tax levy increase. The Council took the action Wednesday evening.
The budget contains an estimated tax rate of 32.486 mills, with the amount of tax to be levied at nearly $641,000. For several years, Seneca’s levy has held steady around 32 mills.
The Council will consider adoption of the 2015 budget following a public hearing at their August 6th meeting.
In other business, the council approved the purchase of new updated software for the city’s electrical load management system at a cost of just under $52,000.
The council took the action after a presentation from electrical consultant Greg Wright.
With the upgrade, City Administrator Matt Rehder says the city will be able to save about $100,000 in demand and transmission charges over a 4 to 5 year period.
Rehder says in any given year their highest usage in a day is between about 9-thousand and 95-hundred kilowatts, and the load management system will be able to shave that just off the top.
