(KTNC)--A new event will liven up the 4th of July weekend in Falls City. The Falls City Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Falls City is sponsoring “Sauce and Cycles.” That involves sauce – as in barbecue sauce – and cycles – as in motorcycles.
Professional and amateur grillers will compete for top prize during the barbecue competition Saturday afternoon, but the day's events will begin with an ABATE scavenger hunt beginning at 9:00 a.m. All proceeds from the scavenger hunt will go to the SENCA Food Pantry. The motorcycle show will run from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., with awards presented at 6:30.
The sanctioned barbecue contest is from noon until 2:00 p.m. Contestants will grill pork, beef, and chicken for the judges, with many getting started early Saturday morning.
Judging of the backyard grillers barbecue competition begins at 3:30 p.m., with contestants grilling ribs and pork butt.
The public will select the people’s choice winner from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wristbands can be purchased to get you in to sample the meat. The $10 wristbands are available at the Chamber of Commerce office or from Travelers Softball team members. Two dollars of every wristband the softball girls sell will go back to the Travelers' fund. Wristbands will enable individuals to sample as many entries in the People's Choice competition as possible.
Awards will be presented soon after the people’s choice voting concludes. The trophies for the competition were made by WASP.
Following the competition, there will be music provided by the High Heel Band and the Gladys Kravits Band, and a beer garden will be open beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding after midnight.
