(KAIR)--Authorities are now reporting that a tornado did not actually touch down in Atchison Sunday night.
Initial reports from the National Weather Service indicated that a tornado touched down in the 1200 block of North Sixth Street shortly after 9:00.
Atchison County Emergency Managment Director Wes Lanter says that when the National Weather Service receives a report of a tornado touching down, they dispatch a team to investigate the area.
Lanter says that after he discussed the situation with NWS officials, they decided not to investigate further as it was determined that no tornado hit the ground in Atchison.
Lanter adds that the overall damage around the city was minimal, with only two trees in Jackson Park being snapped off, and multiple tree limbs coming down in numerous locations around the area.
The Atchison Fire Department also responded to three calls for downed power lines.
No injuries were reported.
An apparent tornado was also reported in Buchanan County, about five miles southeast of Rushville, but county officials report that downed trees were the primary concern there.
