(KTNC)-- The Falls City School District is switching copier companies.
The district’s copier contract is up for renewal at the end of December. The current five-year contract is with Pro-Serv of St. Joseph.
Superintendent Tim Heckenlively recommended that the board approve a 5-year contract with Capital Business Systems of Lincoln. He said Pro-Serv submitted a bid amounting to $210,000 over five years, while Capital Business Systems bid was significantly lower at $160,500 for five years.
Pro-Serv’s bid was a 16-percent reduction from the current contract. Heckenlively said Capital Business Systems contracts with several area schools, while Pro-Serv does a lot of work in the Falls City area.
In other action Monday night, the school board approved the first reading of six policy revisions.
Among the revisions is one pertaining to smoking and the use of tobacco that prohibits the use of e-cigarettes by students.
Other changes cover policies regarding attendance and excessive absenteeism, and student conduct.
Heckenlively said the student conduct policy includes provisions for allowing firearms to be brought into school in certain instances, such as for a hunter education course or historical presentation or re-enactment.
Transportation Director Rob Baker presented his annual report. The total mileage driven by Falls City School buses and vans increased by about 6,000 miles from 2012-13. While the total fuel consumption increased by about 400 gallons, the average miles-per-gallon increased slightly and Baker said they did better on the price of fuel.
Fewer students rode the bus to school this past year than the previous year. Numbers show 224 public school students rode the bus this year compared to 245 the year before, while 84 Sacred Heart students rode the bus this year compared to 91 in 2012-13.
