Kansas Farm Food Connection Announces “Get the Dirt” Challenge
With farm populations declining, fewer people have the chance to harvest a Kansas wheat field or feed beef cattle. The Kansas Farm Food Connection (KFFC) wants to help change that with the “Get the Dirt” sweepstakes.
“People care about where their food comes from and farmers are eager to tell the story of how they raise that food,” says Tim Stroda, Kansas Farm Food Connection chair. “This event brings those two groups together to learn from one another.”
Winners will roll up their sleeves and participate in regular farm chores on a beef operation and a wheat farm in the Wichita area on Sat., June 28. The sweepstakes is open to all Kansas families who want to learn more about agriculture. Children must be eight years or older to participate.
The Kansas Farm Food Coalition is an eight-member coalition of Kansas farm organizations that wants to help consumers learn more about how their food is produced. The organization is proud to collaborate with Cow Camp Feedyard in Romona and Knopf Family Farms near Gypsum for the “Get the Dirt” contest.
For sweepstakes information, visit the KFFC Facebook page at www.facebook.com/raisingkansas. The deadline is June 16. The winner will be contacted June 18.
