(KNZA)--A juvenile, alone during a home invasion at a Southeast Jackson County residence, confronts the man and leaves him fleeing, after the would be burglar hears the voice of a 911 dispatcher coming from the juvenile's cell phone.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says it happened around 10:30 Thursday morning in the 9800 block of T.4 Road, a half-mile north of the Shawnee County line.
According to Morse, the juvenile heard a banging on the front door and was able to see a dirty dark blue box style passenger car, with rusty wheels, a donut style spare tire, tinted windows, and a possibly cracked windshield, parked in the driveway.
At the door was the driver, described as a 30-something white man with a slightly muscular build, short blondish hair and a darker short beard, with yellowed teeth, wearing a green and white horizontally thin striped polo shirt with khaki shorts.
Speaking with a stutter, the man was noted to be wearing sunglasses and a blue tooth ear piece.
In the rear passenger side of the car was another white man who was seen handing the driver a crowbar.
Moments later, the driver kicked in the back door of the residence and began searching the home.
The juvenile, who had originally intended to hide, confronted the man and told him to leave, saying the Sheriff would be called if he didn't.
At first attempting to grab the juvenile's phone, the man instead fled when he heard the dispatcher, ran to the car, and drove south, in the direction of Shawnee County.
Morse says homes with long driveways, or those hidden from the road by trees and shrubs, are being targeted.
Burglars tend to look for residences which appear to be unoccupied. Make your residence appear as if someone is home. Park spare vehicles where you would park your car when you are home. Be suspicious of individuals who come to your property and ask for directions. Burglars will many times check the residence by knocking before they brake in to insure there is no one home. When they are confronted they will come up with some reason why they are on your property. Record vehicle descriptions and tag numbers. Do not delay in calling law enforcement. Many people will delay in calling or mention they saw something suspicious some time back and should have called, but didn’t.
If anyone has information about this burglary or these suspects they are asked to contact 785-364-2251.
