(KMZA)--A representative of J-Six Enterprises met with the Seneca City Council Wednesday evening to discuss the expansion project planned at their corn milling facility in town.
Jason Hammes says the company plans to expand by adding packaging automation equipment and additional extruders to increase production. He said they currently have 36 employees at the Seneca facility.
Hammes said the company has taken several steps to reduce dust and noise at the facility, which has drawn complaints from neighbors. He said most of the noise and dust comes from corn cob processing and the company has plans to relocate that equipment to another site.
J-Six is seeking a zoning change from commercial to industrial for two tracts located on property between 6th and 8th Streets on both sides of Union Pacific Railroad tracks to allow for the expansion project.
The Seneca Planning Commission last week voted unanimously to recommended approval of the zoning change The Commission members considered establishing extra conditions, but determined they were already included in the industrial zoning guidelines.
The City Council will consider the recommendation at its June 4th regular meeting.
