(KAIR)--A Monk from the St. Benedict's Abbey in Atchison has been chosen to sing the national anthem at a Kansas Sprint Cup race this weekend.

Father Meinrad  Miller, who teaches theology at Benedictine College in addition to his duties at the abbey, says he was asked by a former classmate to to sing the national anthem for a special forces military ball where he caught the attention of Pat Warren, who is the head of the Kansas Speedway who gave Miller his business card, and contacted him later that week.

Miller says the venue turned out to be more than he expected, after he found out it wsas going to be broadcast nationally in front of a very large crowd, but he does feel prepared for the event.
And while Miller says he is a bit nervous about singing in front of so many people, he is also looking forward to the opportunity.

The NAASCAR Sprint Cup race Father Miller will be singing at will take place Saturday at 6:30 at the Kansas Speedway, located in Kansas City, Kansas.
