USD 115 Board Approves Technology Upgrades
04/18/2014

(KMZA)--The Nemaha Central USD 115 Board of Education has approved nearly $48,000 in technology upgrades for 2014-2015.

Following a one-hour discussion at their regular meeting this week, the board approved a technology purchase proposal presented by Superintendent Darrel Kohlman.

It includes the purchase of 33 iPads for teachers that don’t presently have an iPad, replacement of 23 laptop computers, 37 Apple TV’s for connecting  iPads and computers to projectors and a projector for the district office.

Kohlman says the district typically spends just over $100,000 per year on technology.

In other business, the board approved a proposal to upgrade the district accounting system.  Board Clerk Collette Hermesch said the current system will be phased out over the next several years and a new system needs to be purchased.  The one-time implementation cost will be $11,750 and the annual service contract will be $8,155.  The upgrade will occur late this year.

The board accepted the resignations of Justin and Kelly Coup,  effective at the end of the current school year.  Justin Coup currently serves as principal at B & B Junior/Senior High School and Kelly Coup as a physical education teacher at Nemaha Valley High School.   In addition,  approved was the resignation of mathematics teacher Roger Schmelzle from his current full-time position to a half-time position beginning next school year.

Kohlman presented updated budget information and the expenses-to-date of the costs related to changing the school colors and mascot. To date, $74,054 has been encumbered from the Capital Outlay fund for gymnasium floors, walls, and wall mats at the middle school gym. Wall mats have not yet been selected for the high school gyms. $22,720 has been encumbered, also from the Capital Outlay fund, for signage changes. Yet to be finished, is the outdoor building sign at the high school and the football field scoreboard. Football, softball and baseball uniforms have also been ordered at a cost of $33,871. Uniforms for other sports will be ordered by the end of the school year. Uniforms will be paid with funds from the supplemental general fund as they do not qualify as a capital outlay expense. Also presented were district motto suggestions that have been received and a new fight song written by a former student and arranged by the band instructor.
