(KAIR)--Atchison's USD 409 is among multiple school districts across the state that stand to benefit from the recent passing of the school finance bill by legislators late Sunday night.
Although the bill has yet to be signed by Governor Sam Brownback, Superintendent Susan Myers says that at first glance, it looks like the district is getting a good bit of money, but she thinks when it is all said and done, if enrollment holds steady, the total amount could be up to $40,000. She says it appears to be more, but it is actually a shift from where the money comes from that lessens the amount.
Myers says the money is definitely needed since there are plans to cut budgets by approximately $200,000 going into next year.
Myers adds they were a bit surprised to learn that the elimination of due process and tenure for teachers was part of the bill, but she thinks it is too early to say how exactly this would effect their teachers.
