Coin Toss to Determine Horton Commission Race
04/07/2014

(KNZA)--A coin toss will be held to determine who fills a position on the Horton City Commission.

The race between Lonnie Boller and incumbent Al Barton for the position of Parks and Recreation Commissioner ended in a tie vote Monday following a canvass of ballots cast in last Tuesday’s general election.

Barton and Boller will be asked to attend next Monday’s Brown County Commission meeting where a coin toss will be held to break the tie.

The Commission, meeting as a canvassing board, decided to count thirty of thirty-eight provisional ballots cast in the election.   Eight ballots weren’t counted in accordance with state statues.  A provisional ballot is used to record a vote when there are questions about a given voter’s eligibility.   Seven of the provisional ballots cast were from Horton

Last Tuesday night’s results had Boller defeating Barton by a three-vote margin---126 to 123.  But after the provisional ballots were counted Monday each ended up receiving 128 votes.
