(KNZA)--Weather permitting, a crack seal repair project will begin Monday in Jefferson County on a 14-mile stretch of U.S. 59 from the south city limits of Oskaloosa to the K-4 junction.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says workers will fill cracks with an asphalt-like sealer to protect the pavement from damage caused by excessive moisture and debris.
Work will take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours, except for within the city limits of Oskaloosa, where crews will work during non-peak morning and afternoon commute times.
Beginning Monday, crews will begin crack sealing work at the south end of U.S. 59, south of Oskaloosa, and will work their way north throughout the project. There will be moving lane closures (only one lane at a time) via a mobile operation. Traffic will be directed via a flagger operation throughout the project work zone.
Lee’s Summit, Missouri-based Scodeller Construction Inc. is the primary contractor on the nearly $53,000 project. The project is scheduled for completion in late April, weather permitting.
