Area Students Participate in State Speech Championship

(KTNC) -  Area students brought home medals from the NSAA State Speech Championship in Kearney last week, with Classes C2, D1, and D2 competing on Friday.
 Johnson-Brock placed 3rd in the Class D-1 sweepstakes with 74 total points. Wausa was first and Bancroft-Rosalie and Lourdes Central Catholic tied for second.
 Johnson-Brock had two state champions. Samantha Teten placed first in Persuasive Speaking and Micah Spruth-Janssen was first in Humorous Interpretation. Amzie Dunekacke was second in Persuasive Speaking, and Spruth-Janssen, Tyler Ebeler, Kirby Neufeld, and Scott Riley placed third in Oral Interpretation of Drama.
 Falls City Sacred Heart totaled 28 points in Class D2, with two medals. Abbey Neddenriep placed 3rd in Poetry and 5th in Informational Speaking.
 In the Class C-2 sweepstakes, Pawnee City totaled 42 points and HTRS had 36 points, both just missing a top-five finish.
 HTRS did have one first place finish, turned in by Jesse Anderson in Persuasive Speaking. Carissa Carlin scored the other points for HTRS, placing 3rd in Informative Speaking.
 Pawnee City had place-winners in three categories. Hannah Davis was 5th in Serious Interpretation; Davis and Karli Cabrera were 3rd in Duet Acting; and Steven Bruns, Macey Gyhra, Carly Hunzeker, Abby Mathewson, and Courtney Mathewson were 4th in Drama.
 Guardian Angels Academy was first in the team sweepstakes in Class C2 and Stuart and Bruning-Davenport tied for first in D1.
