(KNZA)--In an effort to increase attendance at the Hiawatha Aquatic Park, a couple of changes have been approved for the 2014 season.
On the recommendation of City Recreation Director Grover Hargrove, the City Commission Tuesday evening approved offering season passes at an “ early bird” discount rate between March 17th and May 21st and offering free daily admission to the pool for those age 5 and under.
In addition, the frog slide at the pool will be replaced. Hargrove said replacement parts are no longer available for the current structure. The commission accepted a bid from Baker City, Oregon-based Natural Structures for a new 6-foot frog slide at a total cost of $10,964—with shipping.
The pool is to open for the 2014 season on Saturday, May 24th.
Meanwhile, new scoreboards will installed at Bruning Park. The commission accepted a bid from Murray, Kentucky-based Varsity Scoreboards for three new scoreboards with a wireless handheld controller for a total cost of $7,504. The city will handle installation.
Hargrove said Pepsi has agreed to sponsor the scoreboards for $400 a year for five years.
Also on the recommendation of Hargrove, the commission approved price changes for use of the Fisher Community Center.
