(KTNC) -- The Falls City School Board selected its leaders for the year when they met Monday night.
John Martin was appointed as board president for 2014, after being the vice president in 2013. He replaces Scott Hollens.
Ed Harris was chosen to be vice president. The board also decided to leave all committee assignments the same as in the previous year. All other designations will also remain the same – Diann Schawang will be the recording secretary; Superintendent Tim Heckenlively will be the board secretary; and Eva Stark will be the District Treasurer. The Falls City Journal will be the Newspaper of Record.
In action items, the board approved resolutions to refund district bonds scheduled to be repaid in 2019. One resolution calls for the redemption of a portion of the district’s series 2009 general obligation bonds. The other resolution authorizes the issuance of up to $1,615,000 of general obligation refunding bonds.
The move is expected to save the district at least $70,000 in interest costs over the life of the bonds. This is the third and final time the bonds can be refinanced.
In other action, the board set the hiring incentive for new teachers at $3,000 for 2014. That is the maximum amount the incentive can be set at under district policy. It had been $2,000 the past six years.
And the board approved several policy revisions on first reading, including a district mission statement, and vision and belief statements.
