(KLZA) -- The Falls City Council approved the recommendation from the Board of Public Works to spend $199,750 for an emergency generator big enough to power the water plant at Rulo, the current wells and a new clear well that is to be constructed as part of the plant upgrades.
Utility Superintendent Alan Romine noted this project was made necessary when the State Survey gave the City a deficiency for not having a backup power supply at the water plant.
The accepted bid from Waldinger Corporation of St. Joseph, Missouri, was the lowest of the six received with the highest coming in at more than $350,000.
The Council reorganized for the next year with Jerry Oliver unanimously elected President of the Council and Steve Scholl unanimously elected Acting President of the Council.
The Council did accept the 2012-13 audit report from Julie Bauman, CPA. Bauman said the audit went well. The overall report gave the city an “unmodified” opinion which is new language replacing the former “unqualified” opinion.
Bauman noted the City has nearly $291,000,000 in combined assets with total equity in 2013 of nearly $6.2 million. She noted the city debt was nearly cut in half and that each utility department had a net profit for the year.
Council members approved on a 5-3 vote a request to rent Prichard Auditorium by the Sacred Heart Booster Club on March 1, for a dinner and auction and allow alcohol to be served. Council members Scholl, Roubidoux and Murphy cast dissenting votes saying they felt it was not a good concept to combine a school fund raiser and alcohol.
The Council did approve a recommendation from the Management Committee to pay administration fees for a Cafeteria Plan at about $400 annually.
Bids for the Wilderness Falls Infrastructure Improvement Project have been rejected after coming in higher than expected. City Administrator Gary Jorn will negotiate a contract for the project.
