(KTNC) - Teams from Palmyra, Pawnee City, and Diller-Odell will compete in this week’s State Land Judging competition.
More than 150 FFA members from eight area schools participated in the Southeast Area Land Judging contest October 2 near Beatrice.
Contestants competed individually and in teams of three or four. They were tested on the physical features of the soil, including the soil’s texture, permeability, slope, erosion, depth, wetness, slope, and organic matter.
In the team competition, the Palmyra team of Brian Bruggemann, Kourtney Kempkes, Vanessa Knutsen, and Zach Roath won first place. The Pawnee City team of Kellen Habegger, Ted Gyhra, Hayden Meyer, and Caetlen Gyhra was second; and the Diller-Odell team of Cody Scheele, Ethan Rupprecht, Bladen Ahl, and Katie Schultis, placed third.
The individual winner was Zach Roath of Palmyra with a score of 337 points.
Those receiving purple ribbons included Samantha Teten of Johnson County Central, and Caetlen Gyhra and Kellen Habegger of Pawnee City.
Blue ribbon recipients included Jessica Bohling of JCC, and Hayden Meyer, Clayton Branek, and Collin Moser of Pawnee City.
The State Land Judging Contest is Wednesday in Grand Island.
