(KTNC) - Pawnee City officials are warning residents about illegal dumping at the city’s tree dump.
The City Council discussed the issue Monday night, and City Clerk Tammy Stephens says anyone caught bringing unapproved material to the burn pile will be ticketed.
Stephens says the city’s permit does not allow people to burn grass or garden clippings, or leaves. She says several government entities are monitoring the burn pile and if people continue to burn unapproved items, the state may shut the facility down.
Stephens says the city is installing a compost pile north of the tree burn pile, where people can dispose of grass clippings, leaves, and garden waste.
In other business Monday night, the Pawnee City Council approved a motion to sell two city-owned weed eaters to Bruce Doter for $100.
They renewed the annual maintenance agreement with the Nebraska Department of Roads.
And the council gave permission to the Chamber of Commerce to hang flower planters on the decorative light poles downtown.
The Pawnee City Council’s first meeting in November will be held on Tuesday, November 12.
