(KAIR)--A former member of the Kansas City chapter of the Black Panther party, who fled the United States in 1970 and found himself in Tanzania, has a very big supporter in Benedictine graduate Steve Penn.
According to a press release from Benedictine, Penn who is a former award-winning columnist for the Kansas City Star, will be speaking at the school Tuesday night at 7:00. He will be presenting his book titled Case for a Pardon, which details the life of Pete O'Neal from 1970 onward.
Penn states that O'Neal has never sought redemption from the United States government, and has said that he has nothing to apologize for, but deserves it anyway. Penn firmly believes that O'Neal deserves his freedom.
Penn graduated from Benedictine in 1980. He worked for the Kansas City Star for 31 years, and received numerous awards, including the 2007 journalism Leadership Award from the United Minority Media Association. He was one of the people responsible in solving the 2001 “Precious Doe” murder case.
Penn's presentation will be in the McAllister boardroom, located on the fourth floor of the Ferrell academic center on the campus of Benedictine College. It is free and open to the public.
