(KAIR)--A broken headlight led to much more for a local pair late Wednesday night. According to Atchison police chief Mike Wilson, 24 year old Jessica Mottin of Lancaster was stopped just after 9:45 near the 900 block of N. 11th Street, when an officer noticed the defect on her vehicle. Upon investigation, the official detected the odor of marijuana, and noticed a small plastic bag of green vegetation in the center console, along with an open container of alcohol.
When asked for her name, Mottin allegedly gave a false name, though her passenger, 34 year old Abraham Green of Atchison provided his true name. Both individuals, as well as the vehicle, were then searched. Investigators say a small metal pipe with burned residue was found on Green, as well as several bags of alleged methamphetamine. Both suspects were transported to the Atchison county jail.
Atchison County attorney Jerry Kuckelman formally filed charges against both Green and Mottin Friday. Mottin was charged with obstructing the legal process, driving while suspended, transporting an open container, and possession of methamphetamine. She is being held on a $20,000 bond. Green was charged with no drug tax stamp, felony and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. He is being held on a $40,000 bond.
