Delaware River WRAPS meeting planned for July 31

Delaware River WRAPS (Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy) will hold a regular business meeting on July 31, 2013 at 8:30 am at the Glacial Hills RC&D office located at 334 2nd Street in Wetmore Kansas. The meeting is open and the public is encouraged to attend.

Items to be discussed at the meeting include cost share applications, project leadership and updates on current projects.  A detailed update on the Delaware River Streambank Restoration Program will also be provided.  The Streambank Restoration Program addresses major erosion issues along a designated reach of the Delaware River.  This program is responsible for the installation of 16 large stabilization projects on the river to date that protect valuable farmland, protect water quality and reduce sedimentation of Perry Lake downstream.  There are ten more stabilization projects slated for construction this summer.

Delaware River WRAPS is sponsored by the Glacial Hills Resource Conservation & Development Region, Inc. (RC&D).  It is directed by an 11-member group of individuals who live in, own land in or work in the watershed call a “Stakeholder Leadership Team”.  The focus of Delaware River WRAPS is to work with individuals to protect and restore the water quality of streams and lakes in the watershed area.  The Delaware River Watershed is the land area that encompasses over 1150 square miles in parts of Atchison, Brown, Jackson, Jefferson and Nemaha counties.
