(MSC News)--A Horton High School graduate will head to Wichita this weekend, as she competes as a state finalist in the National American Miss pageant.
18-year-old Justine Kimmi, who graduated in 2013, says she was surprised, and thrilled, when she was selected.
During her high school career, Kimmi served as President of the Student Council, was Dance Team Captain, was a member of the FFA, and performed with the band, among other activities.
She says those areas of her background were included as part of the interview process that landed her in the pageant, where she will compete in the 16 to 18 division July 19th through the 21st at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita.
Kimmi has selected her cousin, Bryce Platt, as her escort during the competition.
The winner of the pageant will win $1,000, among other prizes, including transportation to the National Pageant in California.
Kimmi plans to attend K-State University this fall, and will focus on mechanical and nuclear engineering.
