(KTNC) - Pawnee City officials are reminding people to not dump trash at the city’s tree dump.
The city council discussed whether to close the facility Monday night, but City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the city will instead crack down on those who leave unapproved items at the tree dump.
Stephens says people have left items at the tree dump, including beds, office furniture, and regular household trash. She says people caught bringing those sorts of items to the tree dump face penalties, including fines and possible charges of illegal dumping.
Stephens says the council also discussed whether to close the city’s metal dump. Councilman John Dahlgren said Smith Auto is willing to take items if the city does close the metal dump. He introduced a motion to close the facility and have people take items to Smith Auto, but the motion was not approved after council members raised questions about it.
Stephens says the council will have to settle those issues before they decide whether to close the metal dump.
