(KTNC) - The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors began discussions on next year’s budget during the June meeting last week, with discussion concentrating on major projects that will be included in the budget.
Major projects that will be included in next year’s budget include the Duck Creek Watershed project and rehabilitation of a structure on Wilson Creek. Work will also continue to provide conservation measures as part of flood control and grade stabilization efforts in the Buck and Duck Creek Watersheds in the Peru area.
On another budgetary matter, the board voted to provide a 1.4-percent cost of living increase to all employees, with some funds included for merit increases.
The board also adjusted the base salaries of some positions, following a decision last year to establish a schedule that provides some automatic increases for years of service at various levels. The board’s plan was to achieve the adjustments over a two-year period, with the second half of the increase to occur this year.
Separately, the board approved a 5-percent increase for the NRD Manager and a 4.8-percent increase for the Assistant Manager.
In other business, the NRD Board approved a permit for an irrigation well in Lancaster County for SSD Farms LLC. And the board accepted the quote from Dunbar-Peterson Insurance of Omaha to provide property and liability insurance coverage at a cost of $41,850.
