( KMZA )--A group wants to see a Nemaha County road hard-surfaced and have raised funds to cover a portion of the cost.
Representatives of the Apostolic Christian Church, located on 200th Road northwest of Sabetha, met with the Nemaha County Commission Monday to ask that the county pave a 5-mile stretch of the road from Q to V Roads.
They told commissioners they have raised about $80,000 in funding from residents on the road and the church. They also presented a quote from Halls Brothers of Marysville to put a two-inch asphalt overlay on the road for just over $562,000.
The road was paved previously, but the asphalt was removed several years ago, and now there is just a rock base on the road.
The commission gave County Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum permission to contact Hall Brothers and ask them to schedule the work to be done.
The county will pay the balance of the cost after the donations from the church and residents are accounted for.
