(KLZA) Many Richardson County landowners received notices of valuation changes for 2013 from the County Assessors office Saturday.
While an increase in farmland values was expected due to recent land sales, some homeowners in Falls City have expressed shock at the amount of the increase in the valuation of their homes.
In Falls City, residential property valuations increased about 19%. Some were significantly higher while there were some that had only minor changes.
County Assessor Pam Vice said it's been 12 years or more since a reappraisal was done in Falls City. ( play audio )
County agricultural land values were changed based on current market analysis and new construction. Ag land values in Richardson County increased 11.27 percent.
Property owners who don't agree with their valuation may file a protest. Protest forms are available from the County Clerk’s office. Protests must be filed on or before June 30th. The Board of Equalization is scheduled to begin hearing valuation protests June 18th.
