Mound City to Host Junior Duck Stamp Art Work Sunday
(KLZA) Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge is working with partners across Northwest Missouri to present the 2013 Missouri Junior Duck Stamp Art Work. The Junior Duck stamp program gives students across the nation to be recognized for their waterfowl art. Staff of Squaw Creek NWR encourages everyone to take this opportunity to see the amazing art work of Missouri Students.
This Year there will be three locations here in northwest Missouri to take in this art work: The State Theater in Mound City will be hosting an Art Opening on Sunday, April 21st from 4:00-6:30 p-m. For the first time this year the Remington Nature Center in Saint Joseph, Missouri wild be displaying Junior Duck stamp winners from April 26- May 27. The Remington Nature Center has daily hour of operation from 10 a-m till 5 p-m.
Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge will be displaying duplicate prints from April 22- May 26. Visitors wishing to view top winner’s artwork from the 2013 Missouri contest at the refuge can visit the headquarters office weekdays from 7:30 a-m to 4 p-m or weekends 10 a-m to 4 p-m through May 26th.
The Fish and Wildlife Service’s Federal Duck Stamp Office makes the national winner’s stamp available for $5.00. Proceeds from the Junior Duck Stamp sales are used to support environmental education efforts and awards for contest winners. The program is nationally coordinated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Arlington, VA. The Junior Duck Stamp Program has many benefits. It introduces school-age children to the natural world. It instills a sense of individual responsibility in the maintenance of our environment. The program benefits waterfowl and their habitats as well as all migratory birds and hundreds of plants and animals that share wetland habitats.

June: Runge Conservation Nature Center, Jefferson City
July: Springfield Conservation Nature Center, Springfield
August: Bass Pro Outdoor World, Springfield
September: Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, Blue Springs
October: Discovery Center, Kansas City
November: Powder Valley Nature Center, Kirkwood, St. Louis
December: Cape Girardeau Conservation Campus, Cape Girardeau
January: Mingo National Wildlife Refuge, Puxico
February: Lake of the Ozarks Area featured by the Greater Lake Arts Council.
