( KNZA )-Federal funds will be sought for a Doniphan County road overlay project.
The County Commission Monday voted to request around $120,000 through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Federal Funds Exchange Program to help overlay Castleton Road, which is set to be let in August.
Doniphan County currently has a balance in the program of just over $677,000 with an estimated additional distribution of around $104,000 to be made on or around July 1st.
Following a closed-door session, commissioners voted 2-1 to reinstate the employment of Gregg Vertin as the second district road foreman. Vertin had been terminated earlier this month. Commissioner Terry Horner cast the lone no vote.
Commissioners then voted unanimously to demote Vertin from foreman back to road operator and to transfer him to the third district road shop.
Commissioners approved the hiring of Steve Kostman and Jerry Collins for the second district shop at a rate of $10 an hour plus benefits.
In addition, commissioners voted to hire a road superintendent to supervise the road and bridge department within the next two weeks.
