(KAIR) -- An Easton church has given part of their building space for a tornado shelter for the community.
Prior the donation at Monday night’s city council meeting, the community had no city designated tornado shelter.
Currently, the Mayor was given a key to the St. Lawrence Parish, located across the street from city hall.
City Clerk Jere Chieppo says the council will conduct a study on a better way to gain access to the church if a tornado should arise when the Mayor is out of town.
In other business, citizen Chris Blockburger came to the meeting to launch a fundraising campaign to create an Easton Veterans’ Memorial.
Chieppo says the three ton stone monument would be located in the city park and says the cost of the project would be 25 hundred dollars.
