St. Joseph Woman Sentenced in Daughter's Death
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - A St. Joseph Missouri woman will spend at least four months in prison for the death of her disabled 4-year-old daughter last year.
Twenty-one-year-old Alexandra Schurr pleaded guilty in February to first-degree involuntary manslaughter. Her daughter, Amber Elizabeth Mosier, had cerebral palsy and died of an airway obstruction last October after being left alone for more than 15 hours.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Schurr was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison.
Buchanan County Circuit Judge Dan Kellogg ordered her to spend 120 days of the sentence behind bars. If she completes a prison program successfully, she'll spend the rest of the sentence on supervised probation.
Prosecutors said Schurr failed to provide necessary care for the bedridden girl, who was connected to an automatic feeding tube.
