(MSC News) -- Multiple city and school board offices are up for grabs in Tuesday’s local general elections.
Also several special questions will be answered by voters.
Voters in Onaga Community Hospital District #1 will decide the fate of a nearly $17.6 million bond issue to help fund the construction of a new facility at the Onaga hospital and to upgrade the existing facility.
The hospital district includes portions of Pottawatomie, Jackson and Nemaha Counties.
Voters in the Jefferson County North School District will decide whether $2.5 million in general obligation bonds should be issued to fund repairs and improvements to district facilities.
Another is whether the City of Ozawkie, Ozawkie Township and Rock Creek Township be allowed to join the City of Meriden to form a new library district.
In Atchison County, incumbent Mayor Tim Callahan is being challenged by Thad Damon.
For USD 409, in Atchison, three at-large seats are up for grabs, with incumbents Dr. John Eplee, Carrie Sowers and Diane Liebsch and challenger Reverend Clarence Hauk vying for the seats.
USD 377 in Effingham has incumbent board member Steve Meeks being challenged by Rick Vanderwiede.
In Brown County, there are a couple of contested races—including for a position on the Horton City Commission. Ken Krug is being challenged by Heath Hopkins in his bid for re-election as Finance Commissioner.
In Doniphan County, there are contested races for several school board positions and the Highland Community College Board of Trustees.
In addition, the mayors of Elwood, Wathena and Severance are being challenged in their bids for re-election. Also there are contested races for the Elwood and Wathena City Council.
In Jackson County, there are contested races for positions on the Holton and Royal Valley School Boards.
Three candidates are vying for position 4 on the Holton City Commission---Twila White, Brett Summers and Dan Brenner. The position is currently held by Rich Mulroy who didn’t seek re-election.
In addition, there are contested races for the Hoyt City Council and Soldier mayor.
In Jefferson County, Valley Falls Mayor Jose Chavez is being challenged by Charles Stutesman while Andrew Dinger, Patrick Reyle and Lucille Thomas are vying for two seats on Valley Falls City Council.
For Nortonville City Council, Alan Barnes, Steve Belveal and Troy Frost are vying for two seats.
In the City of McLouth, Karl Abegg, James Moore and Scott Weissenbach are vying for two seats.
Several write-ins could also be winners Tuesday in several races, including Easton Mayor, which had no one file, one position on USD 449 school board being vacant and four vacancies on the Huron City Council.
Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
