(KAIR) -- An elderly woman is dead following an Atchison house fire early Thursday morning.
The victim is identified as 75-year-old Sharon Ferris, the lone occupant of the two-story house located at 419 Smith Street.
Fire Chief Mike McDermed says crews were called to the scene around 3:45 in the morning.. (Play Audio)
McDermed says while the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office, foul play is not suspected. (Audio Continues)
McDermed says a smoke detector was located in the stairwell of the residence, but it wasn't connected properly.
