( KMZA )--The Nemaha County Commission has accepted bids for the materials needed to apply another layer of chip and seal to a portion of a county road serving KSI Conveyor’s, a rural Sabetha company that’s recently expanded their operations.
The commission Monday accepted the lone bid from Hamm Quarries of Perry for 200 tons of ½ inch washed chips at a cost of $23.65 a ton delivered.
Also commissioners accepted the low bid from Ergon Asphalt of Kansas City for 7-thousand gallons of road oil at cost of $2.15 a gallon. It was among two bids received.
The bids were accepted contingent on approval of the Kansas Department of Commerce, which provided funding to hard surface a more than one mile stretch of 184th Road from 180th to U Road.
A rock base was added last year and a layer of chip and seal. County crews did the work, and will apply an additional chip and seal layer this year.
The county was awarded a $210,000 Community Development Block Grant in 2011 for the road improvement project on behalf of KSI Conveyor’s, a manufacturer of conveyors and seed handling equipment
