St. Benedict’s Abbot Remembers Father Santa

(KAIR) -- Many monks at Saint Benedict’s Abbey, as well as the Benedictine community in Atchison are mourning the loss of Father Michael Santa.

Father Michael died Sunday at the abbey at the age of 82.

A graduate of St. Benedict’s College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Father Michael became an ordained priest in 1956.

After several years of being a priest and earning a Master’s Degree, he entered St. Benedict’s Abbey.

Formerly known as Thomas Santa, he adopted the monastic name Michael and professed First Vows in 1984 and Solemn Vows in 1987.

He would later become an Instructor of Education at Benedictine College.

Vespers of the Dead services are scheduled for Friday evening at seven at St. Benedictine’s Abbey Church with Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 10:30 at the church.
