(KTNC) - A barn was destroyed in a fire south of Humboldt early (this/ Thursday) morning.
The barn, owned by Mel Streit, was located nine miles south of Humboldt, east of the Boy Scout Camp.
According to Humboldt Fire Chief Rex Kappel, fire had consumed the 40-by-60-foot barn by the time fire fighters arrived at around 3:00 a.m.
Kappel says fire fighters battled the fire and 20-mile-per-hour winds for three-and-a-half hours, and were able to prevent flames from spreading to nearby hay bales.
About 35 volunteer fire fighters from the Humboldt, Dawson, and Bern Fire Departments responded to the call.
