Former Southeast Neb Teacher Convicted on Child Sex Charge
(KLZA) A 71-year-old retired southeast Nebraska teacher faces up to five years in prison after being convicted of third-degree sexual assault of a child.
Omaha television station KMTV says an Otoe County jury found Gene Schoemann, of Nehawka, guilty on Thursday. Schoemann taught math and coached for more than 30 years in the Conestoga Public School system.
Prosecutors say Schoemann molested a 12-year-old he was tutoring. Schoemann testified he was a greeter at a Nebraska City Wal-Mart when he met the child and his family.
Schoemann is set to be sentenced on April 22. In addition to facing prison time, Schoemann will have to register as a sex offender.
