Local Nursing Homes Gain National Rankings
03/10/2013

(MSC News)--A glowing review for a number of local area nursing homes following a national study of such facilities released this week by “U.S. News and World Report.”

According to the publication, ratings for the nursing homes are based on statistics compiled by the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and are ranked by overall performance in health inspections, nurse staffing and quality of medical care.

A five star rating is the indicator of excellence, and six from the local area earn that distinction.

Among them are the Apostolic Christian Home, in Sabetha; Community Hospital Onaga, in Saint Mary's; The Dooley Center, in Atchison; the Frankfort Community Care Home, in Frankfort; Highland Healthcare and Rehab Center, in Highland and Valley Health Care Center, in Valley Falls.

A four star rating, according to LeadingAge Kansas, an association of 160 not-for-profit aging services providers, is also a sign of excellence, with eleven in the local area gaining that ranking.

Those include Atchison Senior Village, in Atchison; Cambridge Place, in Marysville;

Crestview Manor Nursing Home, in Seneca; Deseret Health and Rehab at Onaga, in Onaga;  Eastridge, in Centralia; Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista, in Wamego; Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, in Winchester; Life Care Center of Seneca, in Seneca; Maple Heights Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in Hiawatha; Sabetha Manor, in Sabetha and Tonganoxie Nursing Center, in Tonganoxie.
